If you’re determined to get pregnant, then it’s very important to figure out your ovulating days. Your main task is to ascertain when the important time is – the days that you’re most fertile and you’ll stand a better chance to get pregnant quickly.

Before you go on to determine the best time for you to get pregnant, let’s get a basic understanding of your body and menstrual cycle to help you better estimate your ovulation days.

The timeframe between ovulation and the first day of your menstrual cycle (i.e. first day of your period) is known as the luteal phase. This duration is 14 days long, and is usually the same for most female. Two weeks after your ovulation, your menses begins.

Next, what you need to know is the date due for the next period. You will be able to estimate your days of ovulation by counting back 12-16 days from the due date. Usually, if you have a regular cycle of 28 days, you’ll ovulate on day 14 (counting fom the first day of your period).

The ovulation date can also be checked through the Basal Body Temperature (BBT) method. This is a method that requires monitoring your body temperature every morning using a fine calibrated BBT thermometer. The thermometer will show a higher temperature on the day of ovulation than the other days.

What takes place in your body is this: your ovum (egg) starts to form and develop as your period is ending. Earliest by day 8 and up to day 12, the egg is fully developed and ready. So, your chances of conceiving are the highest if you have intercourse on the 8th, the 10th and the 12th day. This is the best time to get pregnant.

While in general we believe that an egg can live up to the max of 24 hours, it is likely to die away in less than a day (within 16 hours) according to some fertility experts. Meaning that, your egg can be ‘used’ only for a period of 12 to 16 hours after ovulation.

You might be wondering if there’s also a best time for a man to have sexual intercourse that will increase the couple’s chance of conceiving? Yes, it seems there is also a best time to get pregnant for a man. If a couple has intercourse too frequently, the man’s fertility level might be affected – sperm count as well as sperm mobility may become less than optimum to fertilize the egg. The sperm motility may be down too. On the other hand, if sexual intercourse is not so regular, the sperms may become stale and old, and lack the desired vitality. According to fertility experts, coitus performed two times a week produces the best result.

While a woman’s egg has a limited lifespan (usually live up to about 24 hours), the man’s sperms can remain viable for several days in the woman’s body. It may be fruitful to have intercourse a couple of days earlier than the date of ovulation, so that the sperms get plenty of opportunities to meet a living egg.

Bear in mind that knowing the best time to get pregnant may not be sufficient to make you pregnant. To further improve your chances of getting conceived, you may turn to holistic remedies to help you increase fertility naturally, or to help find out if there is any underlying causes that may affect your chances of getting pregnant.
